Dr. Faisal Shahzad, Associate Professor, Department of Livestock Management, Faculty of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, The Islamia University of Bahawalpur (IUB), has been awarded PARB Research Project No. 22-125, with a total funding of Rs. 43.5 million from the Punjab Agricultural Research Board (PARB). The project, titled “Rearing and Crossbreeding of Local Non-descript Goats with Boer Goat under Different Housing Systems to Enhance Mutton Production,” is being implemented as a collaborative initiative with IUB serving as the lead organization. Under the team leadership of Dr. Faisal Shahzad, the project aims to enhance meat production through advanced breeding and housing strategies. The main outcomes include improved mutton yield through Boer goat crossbreeding, genetic upgradation of local breeds, assessment of different housing systems, development of standardized housing, breeding and management protocols, capacity building of farmers and students, reduction in mortality and disease burden, establishment of model demonstration units, economic uplift of rural communities, and contributions to scientific literature and policy formulation
